A team from Gresham Wealth Management is taking on the Great Manchester 10K this year in aid of a North West charity.
Alison Reeves, Samantha Brannigan, Becky Sugden, Daniel Ardern, Matthew Young, Chris Dent, Emma Young and Charlotte Young will all don their running shoes on 20th May 2018 to fundraise for Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde.
Although it hasn’t been running weather of late, the team have still been keen to get themselves ready for the big day. With only two months to go until the big day, training is underway and fundraising has now commenced!
The team has chosen to support Headway after one of Gresham’s Directors became involved in working with the charity. Jonathan Young became involved with supporting the charity in 2016 after he was invited to join Headway as a Director and Trustee.
Jonathan commented:
“Becoming involved with Headway has opened my eyes to the everyday struggles brain injury sufferers have to contend with. A severe brain injury can come as the result of a traumatic accident or sudden illness – something that any of us could potentially experience out of the blue at any point in our lives.
“Whilst treatment is initially available to survivors of brain injury, access to ongoing support ad therapy is very limited. The work that Headway does in helping to fill in the gap by providing social and professional services for members is invaluable to its members.”
The Headway Blackpool Wyre & Fylde branch was formed in 2010 when Patrons Ian and Karen Kendrick’s son suffered a brain injury and was not able to travel the distance to other Headway groups or branches. Since then, the charity has grown in the services it provides and became an independent registered charity in 2014.
Running regular sessions for its members, including bimonthly drop-ins, annual events and days out, as well as access to professional services such as anger management, relaxation and physiotherapy, Headway’s services are a great support to both the members and their families – who often also become affected by the ongoing effects of their loved ones’ injuries. Additional money from fundraising will help to increase the support on offer to brain injury survivors and their families across the Fylde coast.
