Let’s Talk About Tax…First Masterclass Topic for 2018 Announced

When it comes to pensions and investments, the rules surrounding taxation are particularly complex. Due to the ever-changing investment landscape, investors need to be aware of the differences when accumulating and decumulating wealth to provide for their retirement. In particular, the order in which wealth can be accumulated and decumulated within different tax wrappers can result in significantly different tax outcomes. Failure to plan correctly could leave investors with a far bigger tax bill than necessary.

To help explain the complex rules around taxation and investments, we’ll be joined by John Makin, Senior technical manager at Standard Life. John’s presentation, entitled: ‘Minimising Tax and Maximising Income’, will look at the optimal route to follow when in the ‘accumulation’ phase and the ways tax liability can be reduced when drawing down from investments. John will also cover the areas that frequently catch investors out, looking at how effective planning can help to make the most from an investment portfolio whilst minimising overall tax liability.
